Avian Influenza

 

1. The United States reports 9 cases in wild birds and 25 cases in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1, the United States reported 9 cases in wild birds and 25 cases in poultry across 10 locations including New Hampshire. A total of 44 wild birds/free-range poultry were infected and died, 142 were culled, and 2,887 poultry were infected and died, with 465,000 culled.

 

2. Japan reports 1 case in poultry and 24 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1 and 2, Japan reported 1 case in poultry and 24 cases in wild birds across 4 prefectures including Miyazaki. A total of 70 poultry were infected and died, 956,000 were culled, and 29 wild birds were infected and died.

 

3. Iraq reports 1 case in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1, Iraq reported 1 case in poultry in Al Anbar Governorate. A total of 400 poultry were infected, with 170 deaths and 5 culled.

 

4. The Netherlands reports 11 cases in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1 and 5, the Netherlands reported 11 cases in poultry across 6 provinces including Flevoland. A total of 1,615 poultry were infected, with 416 deaths and 434,000 culled.

 

5. Austria reports 8 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1, 3, and 5, Austria reported 8 cases in wild birds across 2 states including Lower Austria. A total of 34 wild birds were infected, with 9 deaths.

 

6. Portugal reports 3 cases in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1 and 3, Portugal reported 3 cases in poultry in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. A total of 13,000 poultry were infected, with 2,616 deaths and 100,000 culled.

 

7. Hungary reports 2 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1, Hungary reported 2 cases in wild birds across 2 counties including Bács-Kiskun. A total of 4 wild birds were infected and died.

 

8. Poland reports 2 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1 and 5, Poland reported 2 cases in wild birds in Opole Voivodeship. A total of 50 wild birds were infected, with 1 death.

 

9. Lithuania reports 1 case in poultry and 2 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1 and 4, Lithuania reported 1 case in poultry and 2 cases in wild birds across 3 counties including Marijampolė. A total of 300 poultry and 6 wild birds were infected and died.

 

10. South Africa reports 13 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1, South Africa reported 13 cases in wild birds across 2 provinces including the Eastern Cape. A total of 160 wild birds were infected and died.

 

11. Norway reports 2 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 1 and 5, Norway reported 2 cases in wild birds across 2 counties including Rogaland. A total of 3 wild birds were infected and died.

 

12. South Korea reports 3 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 2, South Korea reported 3 cases in wild birds across 3 locations including Busan. A total of 3 wild birds were infected and died.

 

13. Ireland reports 1 case in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 2, Ireland reported 1 case in poultry in County Cavan. A total of 40 poultry were infected and died.

 

14. Finland reports 2 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3, Finland reported 2 cases in wild birds in Eastern Finland Province. A total of 2 wild birds were infected and died.

 

15. Colombia reports 1 case in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3, Colombia reported 1 case in wild birds in Sucre Department. A total of 8 free-range poultry were infected, with 2 deaths and 36 culled.

 

16. Guatemala reports 1 case in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3, Guatemala reported 1 case in poultry in San Marcos Department. A total of 37 poultry were infected, with 35 deaths and 2 culled.

 

17. France reports 20 cases in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3 and 4, France reported 20 cases in poultry across 4 departments including Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire. A total of 1,743 poultry were infected and died, with 135,000 culled.

 

18. India reports 5 cases in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3, India reported 5 cases in poultry in Uttarakhand. A total of 14,000 poultry were infected and died, with 7,447 culled.

 

19. Germany reports 14 cases in poultry and 564 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3 and 4, Germany reported 14 cases in poultry and 564 cases in wild birds across 9 states including Schleswig-Holstein. A total of 490 poultry were infected, with 409 deaths and 140,000 culled, and 573 wild birds/free-range poultry were infected, with 563 deaths and 44 culled.

 

20. Sweden reports 1 case in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 3, Sweden reported 1 case in wild birds in Norrköping Municipality. A total of 1 wild bird was infected and died.

 

21. Switzerland reports 1 case in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 4, Switzerland reported 1 case in wild birds in the canton of Fribourg. A total of 1 wild bird was infected and died.

 

22. Belgium reports 50 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 4, Belgium reported 50 cases in wild birds in the Flemish Region. A total of 61 wild birds/free-range poultry were infected and died, with 11 culled.

 

23. Spain reports 8 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 4 and 5, Spain reported 8 cases in wild birds across 3 autonomous communities including Castile and León. A total of 24 wild birds were infected and died.

 

24. Latvia reports 3 cases in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 4, Latvia reported 3 cases in wild birds across 2 locations including Līgatne. A total of 5 wild birds were infected and died.

 

25. Italy reports 15 cases in wild birds and 6 cases in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 5, Italy reported 15 cases in wild birds and 6 cases in poultry across 4 regions including Veneto. A total of 25 wild birds were infected and died, and 165,000 poultry were infected, with 4,003 deaths and 326,000 culled.

 

26. The Cayman Islands (UK) reports 1 case in poultry of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 5, the Cayman Islands (UK) reported 1 case in poultry in West Bay. A total of 66 poultry were infected, with 5 deaths and 61 culled.

 

27. Slovenia reports 1 case in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza

    On December 5, Slovenia reported 1 case in wild birds in the Podravska Region. A total of 1 wild bird was infected and died.

 

28. Iceland reports 1 case in wild birds of highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza

    On December 5, Iceland reported 1 case in wild birds in the Western Region. A total of 1 wild bird was infected and died.

 

Other Animal Diseases

 

1. Poland reports 1 case of Newcastle disease

    On December 1, Poland reported 1 case of Newcastle disease in Greater Poland Voivodeship. A total of 6,000 poultry were infected, with 30 deaths and 135,000 culled.
